Double Pneumonia

We have a client who recently had two of her adult children hospitalized at
the very same time, in two different hospitals with double pneumonia.
Coincidentally they both live in Rochester but were not in contact with one
another.

They became ill but neither sought medical treatment, thinking it was either
the flu or a virus that would pass. It left them both fighting for their lives.
After a long hospital stay, they are both at home now and recovering, but
still weak and unable to work.

It is important to recognize symptoms and seek medical attention promptly.
Testing for RSV, Covid, and Influenza A and B is available during the first
few days of illness. Over-the-counter rapid tests are now available for
purchase at pharmacies, enabling the detection of multiple illnesses.
Medication is also available to reduce the severity of flu and Covid.
Respiratory illnesses can develop into infections that require antibiotics.
Preventative measures are available such as vaccines for flu and
pneumonia. Older adults or those at risk should consult their doctors for
protection.

Lastly, my client shared that both of her children were “too busy” to stop
working and kept on going. We have all been guilty of this. Whether a busy
parent who is raising little ones, or adult children caring for older ones,
those worrying about an income to pay their bills or job security, if we do
not stop to take care of ourselves, we can not take care of anyone or
anything else. As in this case, both families now have huge setbacks to
overcome. Thank goodness they are on the road to recovery.
At Everyday Hands we prioritize health and well-being for our team and our
clients. As the sun is shining today and the warmth of spring is upon us, we
hope our Rochester winter and the cold and flu season is behind us.
